Brief
The owners loved the long, low lines of their mid-century ranch but lived in a warren of small rooms with low ceilings and almost no daylight in the middle of the house.
Approach
We removed two interior walls, vaulted the living spaces to the original roof line and added a run of clerestory windows along the ridge. The kitchen moved to the centre of the house around a 14-foot island. Original brick was cleaned and kept everywhere it survived.
Result
Twice the daylight, the same footprint. Three bathrooms, the kitchen and all living spaces renewed, with new electrical, plumbing and HVAC throughout.
“They told us the real number on the first visit and then hit it.”
